Preserving the history of a pivotal local organization with national significance

Planned Parenthood Collection A Project of Langsdale Library

Langsdale Library is teaming up with UMBC and Planned Parenthood of Maryland to hire a project archivist to process nearly a century's worth of records detailing the history of Planned Parenthood in Maryland, as well as create a traveling exhibition.

And we need your help!

The Planned Parenthood of Maryland collection tracks the organization's progression from its inception as the Bureau for Contraceptive Advice in 1928, to its reorganization as the Baltimore Birth Control Clinic in 1932, and finally to its membership with what is now known as Planned Parenthood.

These records are a core component of Langsdale Library's Baltimore Regional Studies Archives, but they are incomplete and only partially processed. This is why it is necessary to bring in an archivist who will process the collection in its entirety, write a collection guide for research use, and create a traveling interpretive anniversary exhibit for display at Planned Parenthood's Baltimore headquarters and clinics throughout Maryland.

Every gift puts Langsdale one step closer to being able to share these resources with research communities in Baltimore and beyond. Please help preserve the history of this Baltimore-based organization with your gift today.

Langsdale Library is committed to the collection and conservation of historical publications, documents and other ephemera to support scholarship and research. As a part of the University of Baltimore, a public institution, the library also strives to provide access to information. This fundraising effort is hosted by the University of Baltimore Foundation, Inc.
