Spotlight UB A Project of College of Arts and Sciences
The Performing Arts Matter. Spotlight UB Matters
Spotlight UB is the home of the performing arts at the University of Baltimore. It was founded on the belief that the arts, combined with education and social context, promotes empathy, compassion, and critical thinking. These qualities make better students and better citizens.
Spotlight UB-produced projects, which include poetry showcases, concerts, readings, plays and workshops, make a positive impact at UB. Spotlight UB does the following:
- links multiple programs at the University
- creates collaborative opportunities on campus
- provides a social justice arts platform
- builds community ties via co-productions with Baltimore arts organizations
- gives a voice to marginalized groups--veterans, people of color, and the LGBTQIA community
Also, Spotlight UB established the Emerging Voices Project--a project that gives UB students, faculty and staff a platform to present their original work.
Whether it be poetry, play writing, or music, for some this is the first time to see or hear their work performed, which can be a transformative experience for an artist, and is essential to the creative process.
Spotlight UB Needs Your Help!
We want to continue to provide our students with a performing arts outlet. Hitting our goal of $5,000 will allow Spotlight UB to produce a 2018 season by bringing over 30 artists and their talents to our stage. It will also help grant a deserving student with a graduate assistantship.
If you believe in the power of the performing arts, help us keep UB Spotlight alive. Please make your gift today!
